Chandigarh/ International Women’s Day Celebrated by ARD,  PGIMER

Chandigarh : The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), PGIMER Chandigarh, celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026 at Zakir Hall, Research Block A, bringing together faculty members and residents to reflect on this year’s theme, “Give to Gain.”

The event was graced by Dr. Sadhana Lal, Professor and Head, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, PGIMER, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasised the responsibility of healthcare professionals to use their knowledge and resources to support and empower underprivileged communities.

Kamaljit Walia, Founder of the Chandigarh Breast Cancer Trust, attended as the Guest of Honour and highlighted her organisation’s work in breast cancer awareness, financial support for patients, and cervical cancer screening and vaccination initiatives.

Dr. Babita Ghai, Professor, Department of Anesthesia, PGIMER, appreciated the efforts of residents and acknowledged the significant contribution of women residents to the functioning of the institute, encouraging continued initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and solidarity.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Aastha Sharma, Lady Representative, ARD PGIMER, who spoke about the significance of International Women’s Day and introduced the Women Empowerment & Wellbeing Initiative, through which ARD plans to work with resident volunteers to promote women’s health, workplace wellbeing, and outreach activities for underprivileged women associated with the institute.

The celebration also included an interactive Vision Board activity, where participants reflected on their aspirations and future goals in line with the theme “Give to Gain.”

The event concluded with enthusiastic participation from residents and faculty, highlighting the importance of collective efforts towards women’s wellbeing and empowerment.
