Interdisciplinary Action Key to Tackling India’s Silent Sleep Epidemic : Dr. Sandeep Bansal

Chandigarh : Dr. Sandeep Bansal has taken charge as President of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA), outlining a bold, collaborative vision to combat the growing burden of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in India.

Calling OSA a “silent epidemic” with serious cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurocognitive consequences, Dr. Bansal stressed that its management must move beyond isolated specialty care toward a structured interdisciplinary model. He advocated closer integration between ENT surgeons, pulmonologists, sleep physicians, maxillofacial surgeons, neurologists, anesthesiologists, and allied health experts to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered treatment.

Under his leadership, IASSA will prioritize evidence-based protocols, collaborative research, standardized surgical pathways, and advanced training platforms for young clinicians. Strengthening national and international academic partnerships will also be a key focus.

Expressing gratitude for the trust reposed in him, Dr. Bansal reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the standards of sleep medicine and sleep surgery in India through innovation, education, and unified clinical excellence.
