Trust celebrated International Thalassaemia Day with a Mega Blood Donation Camp

Chandigarh : Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is always committed to the welfare of the thalassaemic patients since 1985. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGIMER-GMCH (Regd) a pioneer Trust for supporting Thalassaemics of the northern India and Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp on 8th May 2024 in PGI Chandigarh
on the occasion of International Thalassaemia Day. It was 298th Blood Donation Camp of the Trust. This Blood Donation Camp was also significant as the availability of blood decreases in summer months due to fewer number of blood donation events. The Department of Transfusion Medicine PGIMER observes International Thalassaemia Day
every year to spread awareness about thalassaemia.

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust made elaborate arrangements for the blood donors and setup a desk dedicated to thalassaemia awareness. Prof (Dr) R.K. Ratho – Sub Dean Research (acting Director) PGI inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp by cutting a cake with Thalassaemia patients. He was accompanied by Prof (Dr) Ratti Ram Sharma – Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine; Prof (Dr) Pankaj Malhotra – Head Department of Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology; Prof (Dr) Amita Trehan, Prof (Dr) Deepak Bansal, Dr. Richa Jain and Dr. Srinivasan Peyam- Associate Professor of Department of Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology Unit, PGIMER.

The success of this camp is attributed to the Hon’ble 323 voluntary blood donors registered for blood donation, although 38 blood donors were unable to donate due to various reasons. The entire team of Prof (Dr) Ratti Ram Sharma – Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine PGI Chandigarh deserves recognition for their exceptional services in conducting this camp.

Blood Donors honored with Certificate, Badges, Gift and healthy refreshment. Smt. Vibha Mittal, Executive Chairman, Shri A.K. Dua Vice- Chairman, Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary and Executive Committee Members Sapna Gambhir, Roopam Korpal, D.M. Grover, Kush Verma, Dr Viney Sood, A.P. Singh and Amit Sood thanked Dr. Sangeeta Pachar- Asstt. Professor and her team of doctors, nurses and technicians for their excellent services in conducting this camp.

The coming Blood Donation Camp of this Trust is on 15th May 2024 in Parade Ground, Sector 5, Panchkula. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary of the Trust emphasised the need for voluntary blood donation to save precious lives needing blood support.
